“Ian Browne has over 30 years’ experience as a farm management consultant and has constantly kept himself abreast of new developments by regular training and courses. Prior to this Ian was working as a farm manager in Ireland and the UK for about four years having returned from working overseas in Australia and New Zealand.
Currently Ian specialises in providing financial and technical advice to larger dairy and mixed farming businesses with a particular emphasis on strategic planning for business development, expansion and restructuring. This also encompasses succession planning and retirement provisions. He has been involved in the design and building of several large greenfield dairy units and the development of existing units.
Ian has been involved to a large degree in helping to bring grazing systems for dairy farmers into sharp focus. He was involved at an early stage with The British Grassland Society programmes that involved New Zealand consultants coming to these shores to impart their knowledge. He has also led farmer tours to Ireland and New Zealand exploring what makes the good farmers “good”.
Other aspects of Ian’s consultancy extend to planning matters as they apply to farmers. Various aspects of agricultural bureaucracy are dealt with including the BPS scheme, ELS schemes and various grant applications. Ian also does work for the AHDB Dairy running training for staff and farmer groups.
As a sideline, Ian is an equity partner in a large Free Range egg production unit that has been set up in Staffordshire. As such he has experience of carrying out a large project for himself in a commercial capacity and is very aware of the issues facing this industry.”
