As we all know, farming has THE worst health and safety record out of all other industries. As we enter the new year, a few simple changes could help to save a life!
I have picked out three basic, but commonly missed controls, that can easily be implemented into any farming business.
1. Quad Bikes
Ensure you have a suitable helmet that can be used on a quad bike.
Encourage riders and passengers to wear them, particularly on the road.
2. Lifting Equipment
Ensure all your lifting equipment is compliant with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).
This includes a thorough examination, at least every 6 months, for all equipment used to lift people – such as a man cage.
3. Safe Stop
Ensure you and your employees always use the Safe Stop:
– Handbrake On
– Controls Neutral
– Engine Off
– Key Out
