SMR 1 – Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ), outlines the Cross Compliance rules that must be followed by all farms inside the NVZ.
There is a limit of 170kg/ha of nitrogen in livestock manure that can be applied (directly by grazing livestock or by spreading) on your holding per calendar year. This limit applies as an average across your holding and is sometimes referred to as the N-Loading.
You must calculate your N-Loading every year to ensure you do not exceed the limit.
However, if you are inside the NVZ but are more than 80% grass, you can apply for a derogation that allows you to increase your limit to 250/kg/ha of nitrogen from manure.
You must apply between the 1st October and 31st December 2019 for a 2020 derogation.
If you would like help calculating your N-Loading or applying for a derogation, please contact Cari at firstname.lastname@example.org or your local FCG Office.
