European Benchmarking

benchmarkingAs many of you know the Farm Consultancy Group carries out benchmarking for its clients on an annual basis to look at the cost of production.  Our website has a copy of a report we jointly authored with Old Mill Accountants looking at results to 31st March 2016.

Whilst it is nice to see the milk price increasing, dairy farmers should not rest on their laurels and relax.  It is still essential to continue to focus on reducing costs so that you can cope with any future price volatility and remain profitable at lower milk prices.

The Sherborne office of the Farm Consultancy Group has joined up with Susanne Pejstrup of Lean Farming a Danish farm consultant, www.leanfarming.eu to arrange a European benchmarking study tour in Somerset.  The two-day event will be held on the 23rd and 24th January and will include a session on benchmarking comparing the cost of milk production with other European countries, each attendee will be required to provide figures to benchmark and compare, a session on budgeting from a Nuffield Scholar, two farm visits to low cost producers to look at the practical implications of lowering your costs and plenty of time to network with other likeminded famers.

This is an excellent opportunity to look at how other countries are lowering their costs of production and gain confidence to make changes on your farm.
